About Koolaburra By Ugg

To bring accessible comfort and the cozy UGG aesthetic to budget-conscious families, students, and everyday shoppers.

How Koolaburra by UGG Was Born

Koolaburra was founded in 1991 in Santa Barbara, California as an independent sheepskin footwear company rooted in Southern California's coastal culture. We competed directly in the sheepskin boot market during the early 2000s. In 2015, Deckers Brands acquired our company and brought us into the same family as UGG, Hoka, and Teva.

In 2016, we relaunched as Koolaburra by UGG with a clear mission: bring the familiar UGG warmth and silhouette to a wider audience at an accessible price point. We positioned ourselves as the budget-friendly sister brand, offering comparable style and comfort at 40 to 60 percent less than flagship UGG products. Our formula was simple — soft suede uppers, plush faux-fur and wool-blend linings, cushioned EVA insoles, and lightweight outsoles built for real life.

Over the years, we built a loyal community of families, students, and comfort-first shoppers who returned season after season. Styles like the Koola Mini, Victoria, and Tipton became cold-weather staples in homes across the country. In January 2025, Deckers Brands announced it would phase out our standalone operations to focus resources on UGG and Hoka. The official website closed on March 31, 2025, though remaining inventory continues to be available through retail partners.
